PSL 9: Gladiators Beat Zalmi Shakeel and Roy Stellar Performance Secures Victory

In a thrilling match of the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Quetta Gladiators emerged victorious over Peshawar Zalmi by 16 runs, propelled by the remarkable batting display of Saud Shakeel and Jason Roy.

The clash, held on Sunday, witnessed Quetta setting a challenging target of 207 runs in 20 overs. Despite Babar Azam leadership, Peshawar Zalmi fell short as Quetta’s bowlers showcased a commendable performance in the crucial death overs, sealing a hard-earned win.

The Gladiators’ victory was primarily fueled by the outstanding partnership between Jason Roy and Saud Shakeel, who stitched together the highest partnership for the team. The duo amassed 157 runs for the first wicket in just 14.4 overs. Roy’s contribution was significant, smashing 75 runs off 48 balls, adorned with nine fours and three sixes, while Saud’s impressive 74 off 47 balls included eight fours and three sixes.

Although Peshawar Zalmi made a valiant effort, their bowlers struggled to contain the Gladiators’ onslaught, managing to take only five wickets in the last five overs. Captain Rilee Rossouw fell to Muhammad Zeeshan, scoring 14 off seven balls, while Sherfane Rutherford was caught by Dan Mousely off Salman Irshad after scoring 20 off 10 balls.

Salman Irshad emerged as the most successful bowler for Zalmi, claiming three crucial wickets for 38 runs in his four overs. However, Luke Wood and Zeeshan could only secure one wicket each, proving to be expensive. Aamer Jamal, meanwhile, conceded 29 runs in two overs without managing to take any wickets.

In the end, it was the collective efforts of Quetta Gladiators that secured their victory in this high-octane clash, marking an exciting start to PSL 9.
