Toni Kroos to Retire After Euro 2024

Real Madrid and Germany midfielder Toni Kroos has announced that he will retire from professional football following the conclusion of Euro 2024.

The 34-year-old has had a distinguished career at Real Madrid since joining from Bayern Munich in July 2014, securing four La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies. Kroos was also a key player in Germany’s 2014 World Cup-winning team.

After retiring from international football in July 2021, Kroos made a surprising return in February 2023 after discussions with Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann.

“My ambition was always to finish my career at the peak of my performance level,” Kroos shared on Instagram. “I am happy and proud that I found the right timing for my decision and that I could choose it on my own.”

Kroos began his professional journey with Bayern Munich, making his Bundesliga debut at 17 in September 2007. He was part of the team that won the Bundesliga that season and contributed to Bayern’s 2013 Champions League victory, although he did not play in the final match.

Reflecting on his career, Toni Kroos said, “The day I signed for Real changed my life as a footballer but especially as a person. My only thought now is to help Los Blancos win a 15th European Cup.” Real Madrid will compete against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final at Wembley on June 1.
