PSL 2024: Shadab Khan Criticizes DRS Failure Following Islamabad United Loss to Quetta Gladiators

In a recent match between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators, Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan expressed frustration with the Decision Review System (DRS) after a crucial decision went against his team, contributing to their defeat.

The incident occurred during the match at Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore, where Quetta Gladiators successfully chased down a target of 139 runs, with Rilee Rossouw playing a pivotal role with an unbeaten 34 runs. Shadab Khan believed that Rossouw should have been given out lbw in the 11th over but was adjudged not out due to an apparent error in the DRS technology.

According to Khan, the technology displayed a different trajectory of the ball compared to what was observed during the review process. He emphasized the importance of accuracy, particularly in a prestigious tournament like the PSL, and expressed disappointment at such errors impacting the outcome of matches.

The contentious moment arose when Islamabad United, buoyed by their bowling performance, seemed to have the upper hand against Quetta Gladiators. However, a DRS review overturned an lbw decision against Rossouw, with replays showing the impact of the ball outside off stump, thus saving the batsman.

Following this reprieve, Rossouw formed a crucial partnership of 62 runs with Sherfane Rutherford, stabilizing Quetta Gladiators’ innings. Despite some late wickets falling, Rossouw ensured his team reached the target comfortably.

With this victory, Quetta Gladiators secured their third consecutive win in PSL 2024, positioning themselves second on the table behind Multan Sultans based on net run rate, despite being tied on points.
